This Week’s Meeting (Dec 19, 2017)
- On Tuesday, December 19, we will meet at the community center for our annual Christmas party. Social hour begins at 5:30; the meal will be served at 6:00. Jeff’s Market will cater the Christmas party. The menu includes prime rib, grilled chicken, baked potato, green beans, tossed salad and veggie tray. Everything will be gluten-free. Members are asked to each bring a dessert to share.
- At the party, we will enjoy the music of Indigo Quartet.
Indigo Quartet has been singing and performing in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa City area for over 10 years. They originally formed to deliver Singing Valentines for the chorus fundraiser and just kept on singing under a few unofficial names until finally registering as Indigo in 2009. Julie Schlader, who was the substitute tenor on occasion, became the official tenor in September of 2012. All four are proud members of the Metro Mix Chorus and have served on the music team, as section leaders, and visual team members.
Lead, Jill Perkins is a special education teacher at Horace Mann in Iowa City and mother to Jayda. Julie, tenor, met her husband through barbershop and together they have two young children, Cameron and Macy. Sue Schellenberg, an engineer at Rockwell, is the baritone and keeps the quartet organized with music, money and much more! Paula Land, the bass, is an executive director at Catherine McAuley Center and a very proud mother to three adult children and four grandchildren.
In addition to sharing barbershop harmony through local performances, Indigo conducts Young Women in Harmony Festival each year for girls aged 10 – 24. This one day event allows girls to learn two songs with choreography and perform for their friends and family. If you know a young woman who enjoys singing, let them know!
