MORE DETAILS ON SATELLITE CLUB
The Rotary Club of West Liberty is excited to announce a new way for both existing Rotarians and Rotarians-to-be to engage with one another, stay up to date with community news and events, and serve our West Liberty Community: The Rotary Club of West Liberty’s Noon Satellite Club!
The Satellite Club is a branch of our regular Club, and the members of the Satellite Club are full and complete members of the Rotary Club of West Liberty. The Satellite Club will have a different meeting location, a different program schedule, and most notably, a different meeting time compared to our regular evening club.
We know that we have Rotarians on our roster that would be able to attend more meetings if they were held during the day, and we have identified some non-rotarians that would be interested in participating in a Noon-time club because they are unavailable during the evening, hence the need for this Satellite Club.
For more information on Rotary Satellite Clubs, please visit: Satellite Club FAQ – My Rotaryhttps://my-cms.rotary.org › document › satellite-cl…

POLIO PLUS SOCIETY FORM
Polio eradication update as of 9-22-22
Dear Polio Eradication Warriors,
Four new Wild Polio cases reported this week. See attached report.
What is that Polio Picture? These two pictures show a tale of two times. The first shows parents and children lined up in New York to receive the new Polio Vaccine on 7/1/53. And the second shows the New York Health Department’s estimate of the percentage of 2 year-olds vaccinated now in Rockland County, NY and in the whole state of New York.
A Win Against Polio is a Win For Global Health!
Queen Elizabeth II – It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose dedication to humanitarian causes and unwavering commitment to peace and the environment deeply inspired Rotary members around the world, especially those in the Commonwealth countries. The queen was a supporter of Rotary’s polio eradication and humanitarian missions. She received the Rotary International Award of Honor, the organization’s highest recognition, in December 2013 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation. Her late husband, Prince Philip, was an honorary member of the Rotary clubs of Kings Lynn, Windsor & Eton, and Windsor St. George, England; and Edinburgh, Scotland.
We join the international community in offering our condolences to the royal family.
–RI President Jennifer Jones
Polio – New York –Following the isolation of vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2) in New York, USA, in July, further virological and epidemiological analysis confirms circulation of this strain. It is important to note that since initial isolation of VDPV2, local and national public health authorities have already been operating on the assumption that this strain is circulating, and as such, this official classification at this time does not affect the operational response. New York and US public health authorities continue to implement a timely and appropriate response to this circulating VDPV2 (cVDPV2), in order to rapidly interrupt its circulation, including by: continuing to intensify surveillance efforts (including for potential cases of paralysis), identifying population sub-groups/areas with potential immunity gaps, and proactively reaching out to communities with known immunity gaps to strengthen vaccination coverage.
2022 Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Case Total – 379 Afghanistan – 43, Algeria – 1, Benin – 6 (3 in 2021), Chad – 18 (0 in 2021), DR Congo – 111 (28 in 2021), Eritrea – 1, Ghana – 2, Israel – 1, Madagascar – 8 (13 in 2021), Malawi – 2, Mozambique – 4 (2 in 2021), Niger – 10 (18 in 2021), Nigeria – 33 (415 in 2021), Pakistan – 8, Somalia – 3 (1 in 2021), Togo – 0, United States – 1, Yemen – 127 (69 in 2021) .

Welcome to Week 3 of RI’s Month of Basic Education & Literacy.
This week’s FM is curtesy of Ryan Hyland’s report published in:
Rotary International and Ukraine Friends, a U.S.-based nonprofit, have agreed to collaborate to provide resources, organize logistics, and distribute funds for high-impact projects that help Ukrainians affected by the war with Russia.
Rotary has awarded 272 disaster response grants totaling $8.9 million since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These grants, for club projects in 29 countries, support people in and around Ukraine who have been affected by the war. Rotary and Rotaract clubs worldwide have also donated millions more directly to Ukrainian clubs that are providing water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing.
“Rotary is delighted to expand its reach by partnering with Ukraine Friends,” RI General Secretary and CEO, John Hewko says. “This terrible crisis has brought out the best in Rotary — demonstrating our generosity, increasing membership in Ukraine, and now opening up new opportunities for providing vital services.” The partnership with Ukraine Friends, Hewko believes, will help Rotary “do more for Ukrainians as they struggle to survive and rebuild in the months and years ahead.”
Rotary and Ukraine Friends have agreed on their first joint project, which is procuring and delivering nearly 50 ambulances to hospitals and other organizations. Rotary and Ukraine Friends have donated $300,000 each toward the ambulances, and Rotary districts in Ukraine and Slovakia will work with Ukraine Friends to coordinate the delivery.
The collaboration between Rotary and Ukraine Friends, according to Brock D. Bierman, CEO Ukraine Friends, “will have an amplifying effect and create an even larger impact on those we are trying to help,…the critical humanitarian assistance and medical aid to those most in need will provide Ukrainians with a helping hand exactly at the time when they need it most.”
