A note from Chair Cliff McFerren: "The Lunch Bunch has been having great attendance. We have been averaging 12 members per week. Therefore, I will be getting food for 12-14 members and guests. Instead of letting me know you are coming, just let me know if you will NOT be attending by Thursday noonish. Everyone is welcome and it is great to see so many enjoying the fellowship and exchanging "what's happening" in West Liberty."

Come, help and volunteer on Sunday Nov 19th from 1-5pm to help do servicing in providing Hot Chocolate and Cookies during the Holiday Open House. RCWL will have a table in front of WeLead serving these great items, along with helping collect items for the Food Pantry. Contact Gretchen Nollman and/or Bill Koellner if you are interested in helping out for 30 minutes, an hour, or the whole time we are there!
Membership Spotlight.... Rotarian Xiomara Leveson
Details from Xiomara:
I joined Rotary in May 2022. At the time, Bill Tubbs owned The Index where I was working as editor and told me I would join because West Liberty has a great group of people in the club.
My favorite Rotary memory is organizing the coats for Project Warm last year and being on the public relations committee. I have a lot of fond memories of West Liberty, which is why I will continue to be involved in Rotary there even though I have a new position in Johnsson and Washington counties.
I will say the laughter I had at the noon lunch bunch Rotary meetings will always be a good memory for me. It's also a great way to find out what is going on in the community. If you haven't gone to a meeting yet, I highly recommend it.

West Liberty Community Hygiene Supply Drive
Dear West Liberty Community Member,
Local families need your help! Today, 6,300 Muscatine County households are struggling to meet their most basic needs. Over 4,300 of those households consist of adults who are working and earning more than the federal poverty level, but less than the basic cost of living for Muscatine County.
This year, as part of Giving Tuesday, United Way of Muscatine is hosting a Community Hygiene Supply Drive to help ensure local families have basic hygiene supplies. We are requesting that local businesses, civic, and faith-based organizations collect hygiene supplies for the community-wide drive from November 13th - November 26th, 2023. Supplies will be available for distribution to local families on Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Needed items include: laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap, Kleenex, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, deodorant, feminine products, combs/hair brushes, and lotion.
The supplies collected can be picked up on Monday, November 27th or dropped off at the West Liberty Food Pantry located at 1100 N. Calhoun Street between 12:00pm-3:00pm. If you prefer to make a monetary contribution, please note that the funds are to be designated to the West Liberty Community Hygiene Supply Drive. We will then purchase needed supplies. West Liberty Food Pantry personnel will distribute supplies to those in need. All donations will stay in the West Liberty School District!

This clinic is free, open to the public, and operates on a first come first served basis (no appointment needed). They will offer flu vaccines at this clinic, there is an interest form to fill out if you wish to receive a flu vaccine, so they can get an estimate of the number of vaccines they need to bring. On November 5, 2023, the District 6000 Nominating Committee interviewed candidates for District Governor Nominee Designee 2026-2027. The committee selected Bill Bruce of the Rotary Club of Denison. This letter officially notifies each Rotary club in District 6000 of this selection.
According to Article 12 of the Rotary International Manual of Procedure, any club in the district may also propose a challenging candidate for governor nominee. The challenging candidate must have been duly suggested to the District 6000 Nominating Committee. The name of the challenging candidate shall be submitted by a resolution of the club adopted at a regular meeting. The club resolution must be received by the District Governor no later than November 20, 2023.

Welcome to Week ONE of The Rotary Foundation Month.
Since its formation in 1917, TRF has transformed a mere $26.50 donation into a multi-billion-dollar global conglomerate, with a 4-Star Charity reputation. TRF has invested much in its mission to achieve world understanding and peace, largely through the following programs:
PolioPlus: Since1988, Rotary and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among other partners have immunized nearly 3 billion children against polio. As of June 2022, Rotary had committed more than $2.3 billion to global polio eradication. In 2021-22, program awards, including PolioPlus Partners grants, totaled $150.5 million.
Rotary Peace Centers: Each year, the Foundation supports the training of peace fellows at Rotary Peace Centers, where they earn master’s degrees or professional development certificates. Since 2002-03, 1,600 fellows from more than 140 countries have participated. In 2021-22, 130 fellows from 57 countries began their studies at the Rotary Peace Centers, and program awards for the fellows and centers totaled $3.9 million.
District Grants: District grants support small-scale, short-term projects related to the Foundation’s mission. In 2021-22, the Foundation approved 478 district grants, and program awards totaled $27.2 million.
Global Grants: Global grants fund large-scale international activities with sustainable, measurable results that support Rotary’s areas of focus. Activities include humanitarian projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams. In 2021-22, the Foundation approved 1,199 global grants, and program awards totaled $72.7 million.
Disaster Response Grants: Rotary’s Disaster Response Grants support relief and recovery efforts in areas that have been affected by natural disasters within the past six months. In 2021-22, the Foundation approved 207 disaster response grants, and program awards totaled $7.8 million.
Programs of Scale Grants: Programs of Scale grants empower Rotary members to work with experienced partners to implement large-scale, high-impact projects over three to five years to benefit a large number of people. Based on a model that has succeeded in reducing the maternal and neo-natal mortality rate in Nigeria, the member-led Together for Healthy Families in Nigeria program was awarded the 2021-22 grant of $2 million, which was matched by $4 million in funding from our partners.

To clarify some misinformation recently published in a formally local publication, there is only one Rotary Club in West Liberty.
Thursday Evening Meetings: 1st Thursday of every month from 5:30-7PM starting at the Country Club with the possibility of moving to the Community Center at a later date. These meetings will not only be open to the public, but the community, including families, that will be encouraged to attend. The first 30 minutes or so will be for social/dinner, then we will have an opening ceremony followed by a guest speaker. Onsite childcare will be available.
Friday Lunch Meetings: Every Friday at Noon at Liberty Public House. There is a $10 meal fee per person that attends. Program consists of a round-robin where personal, business, and community updates are shared.
Rotarians and members of the public are welcome to attend any and all Rotary meetings, presentations, and community service projects. For more information, or any questions about the meeting schedule and format for 2023-2024, please let President Ken Brooks
Also note that if your spouse/partner are both members of our club, you are getting 2 copies of the Rotary Magazine, that will change effective January 1, 2021 to where your household will only receive 1 copy now.
